The Periodic Table is something almost every scientist uses.
The Periodic Table was first devised in 1869 by the chemist Dmitri Mendeleev. The early table was intended to illustrate
recurring trends in the properties of the elements. Today, the Periodic Table provides a way to organize, classify and compare
the different forms of chemical behavior.
The Periodic Table has over 100 elements on it and its still
growing. The Periodic Table is also known as the Periodic Law..each tile on the table consists of an element, its symbol(example:solid
would be a box),its atomic number (thats the number of protons in the element's nucleus)
When classifying the Periodic Table you have to look at the
chemical series,groups and the periods.
Chemical Series: Groups chemical elements
together based on their physical and chemical characteristics progressively changing from the start to end of the series.
Groups: Also known as a family. The group
is the vertical column in the periodic table of the elements. Groups are a way to categorize the elements based on the
number of electrons found at the outer edge of the element's atom. Groups are the most common way of classifying elements.
Periods: A period
is the horizontal row of the Periodic Table.

Each element on the table falls into one of ten chemical series:
- Alkali Metals,
- Poor Metals,
- Alkaline Earth Metals,
- Metalloids,
- Lanthanides,
- Nonmetals,
- Actinides,
- Halogens,
- Transition Metals
- Noble Gases
